ProAmpac has acquired Gateway Packaging Co., a flexible packaging and technical products company headquartered in White House, Tenn. Gateway is one of the largest pet food packaging manufacturers in North America, offering multi-wall bags, stand-up pouches, small- and large-format quad-seal bags, box pouches, roll stock, treat bags and hybrid bags.

U.S. Dept. of Agriculture (USDA) Secretary Sonny Perdue indicated that issuance of the GMO labeling rule will be delayed until later this year, missing its July deadline. The USDA is still taking comments from other federal agencies and may incorporate some guidance prior to release.

After disposable coffee cups and plastic bottles, pouches could be the next target in the waste reduction landscape, due to the difficulty of recycling these packs, says GlobalData, a data and analytics company. There is confusion over the use of the Green Dot symbol on pouch packs. The symbol is a mark to show that the supplier has made a financial contribution toward recycling them, yet consumers believe it means they can be recycled in household recycling systems.
