Survey shows continued long-term growth for aerosol products

The Consumer Specialty Products Association releases the results of its 2012 Aerosol Pressurized Products Survey, which serves as an annual indicator of the business strength of the aerosol products industry. For a third consecutive year, U.S. aerosol product production increased setting a new record high with more than 3.8 billion total units filled. The addition of 33 million more units filled – a 0.9% increase over the previous year – contributed to setting a new high mark for aerosol production in the United States. This year marks the 62nd year CSPA has conducted and released the results of this survey. Survey data were collected and verified by the independent firm, Association Research, Inc.

Avantium, a renewable chemicals company, and ALPLA Werke Alwin Lehner GmbH, one of the world’s leading plastic converters, announce their Joint Development Agreement for the development of PEF bottles. After The Coca-Cola Company and Danone, ALPLA is the third company to collaborate with Avantium on PEF, a bioplastic based on Avantium’s proprietary YXY technology. The goal of these collaborations is to bring 100% biobased PEF bottles to the market by 2016.

Continuum Recycling, the pioneering recycled-PET joint venture between Coca-Cola Enterprises (CCE) and ECO Plastics, celebrated its one year anniversary by reaching the milestone of half a billion bottles processed since opening in May 2012.
In the wake of the Greek yogurt craze, yogurt remains a superfood with significant upside, according to a recently released report from Packaged Facts, The Yogurt Market and Yogurt Innovation: Greek Yogurt and Beyond. Packaged Facts forecasts that U.S. retail sales of yogurt will approach $9.3 billion by 2017, up from $7.3 billion in 2012. Even with its recent market growth, yogurt continues to be consumed at a much lower per capita rate in the U.S. than in other countries where yogurt is a staple. Moreover, yogurt is spreading beyond the breakfast daypart, reflecting the "breakfast-all-day" culinary and menu trend.

Recloseable packaging and microwaveable plastic trays were named top packaging breakthroughs that most impacted peoples’ lives over the last 25 years in an on-line survey hosted by DuPont. Together the two categories of invention captured 48% of the votes. The online survey was available to industry professionals from April 9 through May 10, 2013.
