Avery Dennison released the results of its point-of-purchase (POP) tire label material research conducted in conjunction with Crain’s Communications, Inc. An online survey solicited insight from a large global rubber and tire manufacturer database. The results demonstrated this audience’s growing interest in the importance of high performing tire tread labels.
“New government regulations require tire manufacturers to include more information on tire tread labels, including details about fuel efficiency, safety and durability,” says Mark Pickner, director, Durables, Label and Packaging Materials, Avery Dennison, North America. “The label material must perform to high legibility and adhesion standards to convey these messages.”
Avery Dennison conducted this research study as part of development of innovative label solutions for the tire industry. The research, based on the responses of more than 100 individuals, found 79.49 percent of respondents agreed that tire tread labels are “important” or “very important”*for inventory control and to convey information on tire specifications and government regulations. Manufacturers cited the following performance characteristics as essential:
- Good printability
- Does not curl or lift after application
- Does not yellow or stain
- Fast and simple to apply by hand
Tire manufacturers also indicated they want tire tread labels from a supplier with a global footprint to help ensure product consistency, supply chain and product availability. Further details about the tire tread label research are available at http://label.averydennison.com/tirelabel.
Tire tread label solutions are part of the Avery Dennison POP Tire Label Portfolio designed to boost brand image and ensure inventory scanning and tracking ability. The POP tire label material incorporates a special back coating on the polypropylene film to resist the migration of low molecular-weight components and processing aides from the tire surface. The barrier is designed to keep materials from bleeding through the surface of the label to maintain outstanding print quality and brand appeal.
