Anthem Worldwide, part of the brand development practice of Schawk, whose integrated global network provides innovative solutions to articulate, unify and manage brand impact to create compelling and consistent brand experiences, announced that its Toronto and New York offices have been distinguished with three packaging design awards recognizing the value of design to business and society.

The 2013 American Package Design Awards is a national competition managed by Graphic Design USA (GDUSA). The reason is simple yet profound – marketers are challenged as never before to convey their messages and promote their brands in an era of fragmented audiences and global competition. GDUSA has sponsored this national design competition for five decades and this year’s entries grew to over 1,600 with only a selective 1 in 6 being recognized with an award.

According to GDUSA, “Package design and related disciplines are increasingly the difference maker in the consumer’s purchasing decision. The 2013 American Package Design Awards competition celebrates well-designed graphics and the power of design to advance the brand and forge an emotional link with the buyer at the moment of truth.”

Lor Gold, global chief creative officer of Schawk Inc., says: “In store, a shopper wants to be informed and motivated by packaging. It’s the crucial touch point in almost every purchase and repurchase. Our creative talent at Anthem thinks from the shelf out and understands that packaging is the purest expression of the brand idea and the closest point a shopper can get to the brand.”

Janice Jaworski, managing director of Anthem Worldwide’s New York office, says, “Effective package design helps our clients tell compelling brand stories that resonate. We are thrilled that this work for our clients has been singled out as examples of excellence in design.”

AJ Betz, managing director of Anthem Worldwide’s Toronto office, notes, “Recognition by our peers as an industry leader is gratifying. The American Package Design Awards acknowledges packaging design as the most powerful medium – where purchasing decisions are acted upon.”
