A recently uncovered patent application by Apple indicates the brand is considering the idea of “active” packaging that allows shoppers to interact with electronic media while the products are still inside the box. By connecting to a wireless power device, the packaging concept would allow the devices to present marketing information to shoppers while still on the shelf, without draining battery power. The concept could also allow for automatic uploading of software upgrades introduced after the product was first packaged. Interesting concept, but, since the devices will be streaming content, we wonder whether shoppers will consider the new products as used?
