Abel & Cole, an organic food delivery company in the UK, replaced the polystyrene insulated packaging for its chilled and perishable goods with a natural alternative: sheep’s wool. Made from the fleeces of British sheep, the custom package consists of a felted wool pad that’s sealed within a recyclable food-grade LDPE wrap. And it’s been proven to keep products' contents chilled below 5 degrees Celsius (41 F) for at least 24 hours, which is said to be more effective than polystyrene. The insluated boxes are collected from customers for re-use by Abel & Cole drivers, but are also biodegradable or recyclable. (Wool insulated packaging: Wool Packaging Company,www.woolcool.com).
