Attendees of the 2011 Packaging that Sells conference had a sneak preview of the packages selected for BRANDPACKAGING's Design Gallery book, our December design annual that offers a global perspective of the year's most relevant consumer packaging. PTS11 attendees evaluated and then voted for their favorites, which were:

BEST OVERALL + PAPERBOARD | SEVENTH GENERATION LAUNDRY | SEVENTH GENERATION

This 2x-concentrated laundry detergent is housed in a recyclable LDPE plastic pouch inside an outer shell made from 70 percent recycled paperboard and 30 percent newspaper fiber. The entire packaging system (the bottle, pouch and a polypropylene spout and cap) is recyclable.

RIGID PLASTIC | DISNEY HAND SOAPS | METHOD + DISNEY CONSUMER PRODUCTS

Inspired by the opportunity to playfully influence kids to wash their hands, Method partnered with Disney Consumer Products and designed a bottle modeled after the silhouette of two of the company’s most iconic characters: Mickey and Minnie Mouse.

METAL | DIET PEPSI SKINNY CAN | PEPSICO

The Diet Pepsi Skinny Can launched during Fashion Week to celebrate “beautiful, confident women”. The taller thinner can was criticized by some, who objected to the inference that beautiful, confident women are tall and thin.

GLASS| SX LATIN LIQUORS | SX LATIN LIQUORS

It’s no accident that the “S” stands for sensual and the “X” for exotic in the SX Latin line of premium spirits. Contoured blown glass bottles reinforce the brand’s bold promise: “Your Drink. Sexier!”

FLEXIBLE | CLIMBER POUCH USA | CLIF FAMILY WINERY

The Clif Family Winery introduces its new Climber Pouch-a portable, flexible package that can hold the equivalent of two 750ml bottles of wine. Designed for the active wine enthusiast, the package is durable and lightweight and has a one-way plastic spout. The ‘all-terrain wine transport’ also reportedly results in 90 percent less waste and has an 80 percent lower carbon footprint than two glass bottles.

Clear Seas Research coordinated the evaluation of the packages and tabulated the results of the voting.
