During PACK EXPO 2017, Sun Chemical will take brand owners and their converting partners from concept to consumer with its innovative solutions designed to help brands achieve their unique packaging goals while enhancing press room activity.
“Brand owners want innovative packaging that accomplish a variety of goals, from shelf standout, sustainability, and lightweighting to extended shelf life, compliance, color consistency and anti-counterfeiting,” says Penny Holland, vice president of marketing, North American Inks, Sun Chemical. “At Sun Chemical, we develop products and services designed to achieve all these goals and more. Using the theme ‘Brighter Ideas for Packaging’ during PACK EXPO, we will show how we can be a partner that can meet a broad range of packaging needs that provide real value for brand owners and their converting partners.”
Visitors of Sun Chemical booth #S-6285 will be introduced to a new portfolio of eco-friendly inks and coatings that are formulated with significantly higher levels of bio-renewable resin content compared to other previous market offerings from Sun Chemical.
One of these inks, SunSpectro® SolvaGreen flexographic and gravure solvent-based inks, feature naturally derived resins and additives and are meant for surface printing on biodegradable films. SunVisto® AquaGreen water-based inks are formulated with high levels of bio-renewable sourced resins and deliver the required critical performance attributes needed across a range of paper packaging applications.
By utilizing SunBar® (Aerobloc) oxygen barrier coatings, brands can further achieve sustainability goals by lightweighting packaging. Flexographic printers looking to integrate sustainable practice into their workflow can also invest in Sun Chemical’s SunGraphics® SunLite In-Position Plates.
The new eco-friendly inks will be the focal point of a presentation Sun Chemical’s Greg Pace, Ph.D., Corporate Manager Regulatory and Product Stewardship, will deliver called, “Reducing Environmental impact of Packaging with Eco-friendly Inks and Coatings,” at the Innovation Stage in Room C-1041 on Tuesday, September 26th at 1 p.m.
Visitors of Sun Chemical’s booth will learn about Sun Chemical’s catalog of creative solutions aimed at helping brand owners give their packaging the wow factor. SunInspire™ specialty inks and coatings, for example, can add visual magic, from metallic inks to fluorescents and phosphorescents, glitter effects, pearlescents, and frosted effects. SunInspire tactile coatings, ranging from coarse and gritty to soft and smooth, appeal to the sense of touch. Sun Chemical’s award-winning “Innovation Guide” which features these coatings, will be on display at the booth.
Sun Chemical will also highlight its SunBar (Aerobloc) oxygen barrier coatings. In addition to extending product shelf life, SunBar (Aerobloc) barrier coatings enable the lightweighting of packaging by removing polymer layers from packaging, as well as offering improved laminate flexibility. SunBar (Aerobloc) coatings are cost-effective, compostable, and press-ready, allowing for lighter-weight packaging, a reduced carbon footprint, and easy application with few changes to current equipment. Through its partnership with acpo, ltd., SunBar (Aerobloc) pre-coated films are readily available for converters.
Sun Chemical has expanded its adhesives offerings to the flexible packaging market thanks to its partnership with SAPICI S.p.A. Sun Chemical’s new SunLam Monomer Free adhesives push the boundaries of innovation in the manufacture of polyurethane adhesives for flexible packaging. This zero-migration technology is food safe and safe during handling.
Thanks to Sun Chemical’s partnership with Document Security Solutions (DSS), a leader in anti-counterfeit and authentication technologies, to cross market and sell one another’s high-level anti-counterfeiting products, booth visitors will learn how AuthentiGuard® can help brand owners, supply chain personnel and consumers to validate product authenticity using a smartphone. Multiple covert taggant-reader systems, special effect inks and smart sensor technology will also be on display.
On Monday, September 25 at 1 p.m. at the Healthcare Innovation Stage in Room #N-401, Jim Reiman, Director of Brand Protection for Sun Chemical and Mike Tobin, vice president of Sales & Marketing at DSS, will present “Big Data Takes Intellectual Property (IP) Strategies from Reactive to Predictive.”
Visitors can also learn about Sun Chemical’s SunVetro™ series of organic UV screen inks that allow brand owners to decorate their glass and ceramic packaging with bright, vibrant effects that can liven up the shelf presence. Organic inks, coatings and sprays significantly expand the color gamut versus the FRIT printing process, allowing brand owners to not only produce standout designs directly decorated on the glass, but to do so using real brand colors that meet the current industry regulations regarding heavy metals and VOCs.
