PepsiCo’s Frito-Lay unit may have retreated from its compostable SunChips bag, but it’s still looking for innovative, sustainable salty-snack packaging across the Atlantic. Richard Evans, president of PepsiCo UK and Ireland, told a British radio station that his company was researching flexible packaging made from potato peelings. Evans said they had already developed bags made from wood-based cellulose, but they were too “crackly”-the same problem that led Frito to dump most of its SunChips bags. Evans said bags made from potato scraps would be less noisy, and  speculated that they may hit the market within the next year and a half.
