At-home dinners continued to take market share away from restaurants in 2010, but the trend slowed from 2009, according to a new study by Packaged Facts. Dinnertime daypart restaurant sales declined 4.6% in 2009, but Packaged Facts forecasts that decline at only 2.8% in 2010. The report raised the possibility that the upswing could continue in 2011 and perhaps even break into positive territory. It noted that dinners at home are most common among consumers aged 18 to 24, students, homemakers, women and households with income under $50,000.
