Thailand adopting IBM food tracking program
Agricultural authorities in Thailand are working with IBM to institute a tracing system for agricultural products. The country’s ministry of agriculture has launched an initiative with IBM and IBM business partnerFXA groupto allow food to be traced throughout Thailand’s supply chain. Software including IBM’s InfoSphere Traceability Server will be used in conjunction with linear and 2D bar codes and Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) tags to collect information about each batch of agricultural and meat products produced in the country, including which farm it came from, where it was processed and its current location and temperature. Thailand is a leading exporter of agricultural products including fish, rice and chicken; its agricultural exports exceeded $17 billion last year.
