Frito rolls out quieter PLA bag
Frito-Lay has announced a solution to one of the most bizarre debacles in recent packaging history: its noisy SunChips bag. A new version of the pouch made from polylactic acid (PLA) has a new adhesive that, the company says, will reduce noise when the bag is handled. “Noisy bag” complaints about the SunChips PLA bags went viral on Facebook and other media shortly after they were introduced, leading PepsiCo unit Frito-Lay to pull most of them from the market about four months ago. Frito-Lay will test the new bag with SunChips originals, the only SKU to still use PLA, and will consider extending it to other SunChips flavors depending on results.
