Dow Chemical Co.
will acquire Rohm and Haas Co. for more than $15
billion in cash. The deal, which is part of an attempt to move into the
higher-margin specialty chemicals market, will make Dow the world’s leading
specialty chemicals and advanced materials company. Rohm and Haas chief
operating officer Pierre Brondeau is expected to be appointed chief executive
officer of Dow’s specialty chemical business.
Unisource Worldwide Inc. announced a new stretch film wrapper equipment program, featuring three lines of equipment. A highlight will be a Unisource Private Brand stretch film wrapper model, which handles loads weighing up to two tons and features an Allen-Bradley PLC, a belt-driven roll carriage and a dual-speed roll carriage.
Kliklok-Woodman parent company Klikwood Corp. has announced the acquisition of a majority interest in Kliklok International Ltd., its British division, by Kliklok Int’l senior management. The move came after the retirement of Kliklok Int’l’s former managing director, Robert G. Davis.
Natural Source Printing has introduced its tree-free FiberStone paper, made from limestone, which can be coated with a freezer- or moisture-proof adhesive, is recyclable with traditional paper and plastic recycling methods, and has a carbon footprint of about one third that of virgin paper and half that of recycled paper.
Multisorb Technologies won a 2008 IFT Food Expo Innovation Award for its FreshBlend, a resin-bonded oxygen scavenging system that enhances oxygen barrier properties and lengthens food and beverage shelf life.
