The flexible packaging is 100% recyclable and can be used for a variety of wrappers and containers, including water bottles, sandwich bags and snack bags.
The rules also cover the use of clear and accurate on-pack recycling instructions, which will help consumers to ensure that packaging is sorted for the appropriate end-of-life solution.
Advanced recycling, or chemical recycling, is receiving a lot of attention from investors across the world as more companies explore commercialization. In the 2019 Closed Loop Ventures report, “Accelerating Circular Supply Chains for Plastics,” the findings revealed that 40 startups or companies are currently running commercial-scale recycling facilities in the U.S. or Canada, or have plans to do so in the next two years.
As label technology continues to advance, CPGs need to understand how that impacts the supply chain in order to ensure the end label meets their, and their customers’, needs.
A Freedonia Group forecast from May expects the demand for printed labels to rise 3.2% per year through 2025. The organization found that “printed labels will benefit from the increased utilization of labels for advanced product promotion, which will drive the use of more appealing, 360-degree coverage and more complex, high-quality graphics.”
I wish I were a smarter person. That’s not a self-deprecating statement, either, because I wish I were smart enough to specifically do one thing: make being a recycler profitable.
