This year at PACK EXPO International, many companies looked for ways to bring innovation to the flexible packaging market. As flexible continues to bend into various categories and applications, new problems arise. Many companies are looking at simple solutions that will have major impact.
Delkor Systems has been moving into the flexible market in the last year so much so that flexible packaging now makes up about half their business. One of their major innovations for flexible is the Cabrio Case, which is a rigid container designed to pack stand up pouches. The convertible shipping container opens easily to convert into a shelf-ready display box. The Cabrio Case opens with one motion and does not require tear strips or secondary tools to open it. It also features machine cut edges and is available in different sizes for a clean, custom look.
Presto Product Company launched CHILD-GUARD technology at the show. This new style of slider is the first child-resistant option for pouch packaging. The closure meets Title 16 CFR 1700 of the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission Poison Prevention Packaging Act, which prevents children under the age of six from getting into the package. The innovation opens up new opportunities for flexible packaging where child resistance is important. The new slider is also easy for adults to open and close with a simple “point, press and pull” motion.
