Clondalkin Flexible Packaging Bury, formerly Chadwicks of Bury, is celebrating 70 years in the industry.

Now a leading manufacturer of precut lids, the company’s success can be traced back to the milk bottle top. In 1935, company founder Ronald Chadwick began work as a general supplier to the farming community around Bury, England, offering local farmers everything they needed for their businesses, which over time included tops to cover milk bottles.

Once aluminum became the material of choice for this closure, Chadwick invested in a punching machine to produce the metal lids quickly and easily. And, unwittingly, he began CFP Bury’s journey as a producer of precut lids. In the late 1990s, Chadwicks of Bury became part of the global Clondalkin group. CFP Bury offers state-of-the-art flexo printing and the latest lidding technology, including SMARTembossing, both laser and mechanical perforations, and coding capability.

John Chadwick, managing director at CFP Bury, has been with the company for 30 years.

“To reach such a significant milestone is a huge achievement,” John says. “Decades of manufacturing lids have created a huge wealth of knowledge and expertise – all of which current and potential customers benefit from – as we draw on the experience gained to provide new solutions. It’s also meant overcoming many challenges, including economic instability, increased global competition and advancement in technologies. Thanks to our talented team and our commitment to innovation and investment, we’ve kept ahead of these changes to become the successful company we are today. We are proud to celebrate 70 years.”

The company is one of 11 production facilities operating throughout Europe and North America under Clondalkin Flexible Packaging.
