It just keeps getting better. Adhesive performance is being taken to new levels with the introduction of three pressure-sensitive adhesives (PSAs) for vastly different applications. The trio includes a new repositionable product that stays crystal clear over time and two reformulated PSAs — one removable, the other permanent — that significantly outperform their predecessors. All three PSAs are APE — and formaldehyde-free. Here’s a closer look at each of these new solutions.

The Clear Solution

The most noteworthy of the these new PSAs is the Covinax 234-01, a versatile PSA that stays transparent, peels very smoothly and re-adheres — multiple times — with absolutely no adhesive buildup on the surface. It coats on crystal clear and remains so, even when exposed to UV and moisture for long periods.

And that’s only the beginning of this PSA’s story. It also adheres to many different substrates, including polypropylene and polyethylene films, vinyl, polystyrene and other low surface energy (LSE) materials. It is highly resistant to low temperatures and water-whitening, making it ideal for use in cold, moist environments, such as a freezer or on the inside of a window. Plus, it’s compliant to FDA 21 CFR 175.105.

The combined abilities to stick — and re-stick — to myriad surfaces, stay transparent, peel clean and endure moist and cold environments make this Covinax PSA the clear solution for a variety of challenging applications, from decals to window graphics and emblems to specialty tapes.

Two Trusted PSAs Get Better

As exciting as the development of a new product is, it can be more expedient to perfect a proven adhesive. Accordingly, Franklin recently reformulated two of its core PSAs into notably higher-performing products, launched as next-generation products Covinax 424-39 and Covinax 265-05.

Covinax 424-39 is a surfactant-stabilized vinyl acrylic copolymer for general purpose use in tape and label applications. It offers a more aggressive bond than its predecessor, with higher tack and peel. Although it produces a strong permanent bond, the product builds no adhesion with age, making it ideal for use in a wide variety of applications. It is coater-ready and adheres to corrugated boxes, polyolefin films, glass and metals, and offers good flexibility.

For added versatility, Covinax 424-39 also remains optically clear, with no yellowing, is resistant to UV emissions and heat and complies with FDA 21 CFR 175.105. Converters can easily transfer coat it on most rod, gravure or roll coaters.

The second next-generation adhesive, Covinax 265-05, is a surfactant-stabilized acrylic copolymer emulsion for semi-removable applications. It offers a much higher shear and more balanced peel and tack adhesion over the first-generation product, with better stability over time. The coated label applied to substrates will act as an aggressive removable adhesive for up to four hours with the adhesion building to permanency.

This versatile PSA adheres to multiple substrates with clean removability and no adhesive transfer. It is designed for removable paper and filmic labels where the labeled substrates are metal, film, plastic, glass, and overprinted or painted surfaces, and is ideal for shelf marking, food labeling, re-sealable envelopes, and other applications. It was specifically designed to transfer coat with slot die and Mayer rod coaters on a wide variety of films and release liners.

Like Covinax 424-39, Covinax 265-05 remains optically clear and is UV resistant. It also complies with FDA 21CFR 175.105 and 21CFR 176.180.
