Legacy Pharmaceutical Packaging, a contract packager serving the global pharmaceutical industry with bottling, blistering, pouching, unit-of-use, compliance and secondary packaging services, has hired two high-level executives following its recent move into a modernized 190,000-square-foot production facility.

Steve Meeker, whose more than three decades of pharmaceutical industry experience includes the previous 18 years with Bayer Health Care LLC, has been named the company’s new COO, while dedicated QA specialist Edwin Miranda has become Legacy’s newest director of quality.

In fulfilling their new respective roles, both Meeker and Miranda will have plenty of elbow room. Legacy’s new plant, which also will serve as the company’s headquarters, is more than twice the size of its previous facility, leaving ample space for a variety of additions and upgrades to production and customer servicing capabilities, including 10 new packaging lines. The facility also contains a new Drug Enforcement Administration-approved Schedule II vault that can hold up to 300 pallets of product.

Before joining Legacy, Meeker was vice president of product supply for Bayer Health Care LLC, the culmination of his nearly two decades of service to that company. Prior to that, he was head of business development for Highland Packaging, which later became Sanofi Pharmaceuticals.

Miranda has held QA positions at several noteworthy pharmaceutical companies, including tenures as vice president of quality for URL Mutual Pharmaceuticals Inc., and director of global quality for UCB Pharma, Inc. He is a member of the Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients Committee, as well as the Drug Information Association and American Society for Quality.

At Legacy, Miranda will benefit from a new 1,500-square-foot training facility which provides a dedicated area to train equipment operators and packaging specialists without interrupting day-to-day operations.

“The addition of dedicated, accomplished pharmaceutical industry veterans such as Steve and Edwin are part of our growth strategy, and will allow Legacy to realize the full potential of our spacious new facility,” says Brad Rayner, executive director of sales and marketing for Legacy Pharmaceutical Packaging.  “The new plant marks the largest infrastructure upgrade and expansion in Legacy’s history, and we are committed to making it home to some of the industry’s most knowledgeable engineers and executives.”
