Tucked away in a business park cul-de-sac, just around the corner from Kingsmill, Va., is a 135,000-square-foot factory that employs 200 people and manufactures plastic packaging for popular foods like apple sauce, yogurt, peanut butter and more.

That fact came as a surprise to some Lafayette High School students, who got a tour of that facility – Printpack Inc. – on Friday, Oct. 6, as part of Williamsburg-James City Schools' "Manufacturing Day" event.

Printpack was one of six local businesses that opened their doors Friday to WJC students for National Manufacturing Day. The school division parntered with local industry leaders to expose students to the diversity of careers that exist in the manufacturing industry. Coresix Precision Glass, Anheuser-Busch, Ball Manufacturing, Owens-Illinois and the Walmart distribution center also hosted students to deliver the message that there's a place for almost everyone in the industry.
