Seattle Passes Laws to Alleviate Food Waste

The City of Seattle has passed a new set of rules to regulate the amount of food residents and businesses throw away.
According to the Seattle Times, the new ordinance allows garbage collectors to check trash cans and issue fines starting at $1 for residents and $50 for businesses if the amount of food waste makes up at least 10 percent of the trash.
