The FPA Environmental Committee met with EPA officials at the Office of Air Quality Planning and Standards (OAQPS), in North Carolina for a day-long meeting to discuss Clean Air Act regulations that may impact the flexible packaging industry.  Ram Singhal, FPA Vice President for Technology and Environment stressed the importance of these meetings with regulators. “It is not only essential to see industry regulators to learn of their planned regulatory actions affecting the industry, but FPA to be seen by these regulators as a resource,” Singal says.

Additionally, the committee meets once a year in Washington, D.C. to interact with EPA Program Directors for water, waste and green labelling. While in DC, the FPA also scheduled meetings with other trade association leaders to understand and influence their lobbying efforts on issues such as amendments to the Toxic Substances Control Act (TSCA Reform), and transportation of hazardous waste as it relates to Homeland Security. Singhal emphasized, “It is critical for FPA to have a voice with other trade groups on issues relevant to the flexible packaging industry.”

FPA will provide details of environmental issues in future articles.  For information about this, and all other regulatory issues, contact Ram Singhal, rsinghal@flexpack.org.
