Registration is open for the 2014 TAPPI Extrusion Coating Course, Aug. 12-14, 2014 in Appleton, Wis. Sponsored by the Polymers, Laminations, Adhesives, Coatings and Extrusions Division (PLACE) of TAPPI, the three day program includes a wide range of networking opportunities and tabletop reception in addition to the rich technical content.
“We’ve expanded the course to provide additional learning opportunities, such as networking during an evening outing and a tabletop reception, while continuing to offer the best technical program available anywhere on extrusion coating technology and applications,” says Scott Weber, course chairman and application development & technical support engineer of EVA Polymers with Celanese. ”The technical program also features new “hot topics” on web handling and additional information on troubleshooting resin use at the plant.”
The three-day course includes an evening outing to the Fox City Stadium to watch the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers take on the Clinton LumberKings.
The comprehensive course covers best practices and equipment technology in extrusion coating used for a wide range of flexible packaging and other applications. For maximum benefit, participants should have some familiarity with extrusion coating technology and terminology. A technical background and/or extrusion experience will be helpful.
Topics covered include: basic resin and equipment technology (extruders, dies, and auxiliary equipment); detailed instruction for equipment and process technology specific to the extrusion coating process; common extrusion coating process problems; product structures and uses in packaging applications; extrusion coating resin physical properties and processing issues; capabilities, specifications, and limitations of extrusion coating equipment; extrusion process (web handling, polymer processing, purging, and troubleshooting); surface treatment options and applications; equipment and resin for coextrusion applications; extrusion process safety concerns.
