FPA members Ron Cotterman, PhD, Vice President of Sustainability, Sealed Air and Jeff Wooster, Dow Performance Packaging, North America were session panelists during the two day SAVE FOOD Congress, May 7-8, held in conjunction with Interpack, in Düsseldorf, Germany. The full Congress agenda addressed topics of global food loss and food waste. Dr. Cotterman’s presentation covered using innovation to keep foods fresher longer and Jeff Wooster spoke about saving food around the globe through packaging innovation during the session titled, Simple Measures in the Food and Packaging Industry – How we reduce food losses in practice.
The SAVE FOOD initiative was established in 2011 cooperatively with the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) and Messe Düsseldorf. The ultimate goal of the SAVE FOOD Congress is to develop solutions that will reduce food loss and waste along the food value chain. This year, SAVE FOOD was the central theme at the Interpack 2014 Innovationparc Packaging, a forum for the development and discussion of visionary ideas. Exhibitors were invited to showcase their concepts on how food can be better protected to reduce spoilage.
