During this year’s Converters Expo, MTorres will be unveiling its latest splicer, the TorresHybrid, to the flexible packaging world. Designed for lightweight substrates such as thin films and nonwovens, the TorresHybrid offers the industry a unique alternative for high speed splicing.  Available with a turret unwind, the TorresHybrid offers the benefits of a zero-speed splice – excellent splice reliability, reduced waste, reduced tape usage, etc. – along with a smaller festoon and smaller footprint, the company says.

With its unique “catapult” splicing mechanism, the splice takes place at a zero relative speed and enables users to have a smaller, festoon utilizing low inertia rolls. Due to the unique method of tension control, substrates such as light microns can be spliced at a production speed of up to 600 mpm (2000 fpm).

The TorresHybrid is designed for either a butt splice or an overlap splice with no tail.  This means that downstream equipment will not be affected by a tail, removing a potential problem in the converting process.

In conjunction with the company’s sophisticated options for automation, the TorresHybrid can significantly help with the overall production of the facility.  MTorres’ tension control will enable the machine to handle significantly out of round rolls, so rolls that were previously returned to the supplier or scrapped, can now be converted.

The company will also introduce its large range of products for the converting industry, including its new winder. The Torres high-speed winder is suitable for paper and paperboard, and it is available for a wide range of roll sizes. The Torres winder is ideal for many applications and processes such as coating, printing, etc., and is available in different sizes and with different options to ensure the best adaptation to the specific needs of each customer.

With this new winder, MTorres has capitalized on over 30 years of experience in web tension control, unwinders and splicers, and is now able to offer an attractive package of the unwind and rewind.
