Plastic Suppliers, Inc., a Columbus, Ohio-based manufacturer and distributor of bio- and petrochemical-based films, welcomed USDA Secretary of Agriculture Tom Vilsack and U.S. Senator Sherrod Brown when they toured the PSI Columbus site on Friday, Jan. 31. Secretary Vilsack and Senator Brown were in town to learn more about PSI’s EarthFirst (biopolymer) brand film.
“We were excited to show Secretary Vilsack and Senator Brown how EarthFirst films offer a more sustainable choice for food packaging companies,” says PSI President and CEO George Thomas. “We know the packaging industry seeks new and innovative materials to help them achieve their responsible packaging goals, and our EarthFirst films offer a smart solution for packaging companies to reach those goals.”
Made from a near-carbon neutral polymer, EarthFirst films offer many benefits, including:
- Made from annually renewable plant resources
- Compostable to the ASTM D6400 and DIN EN 13432 standards
- Saves energy; using 100 pounds of EarthFirst film saves enough energy to run a 100-watt light bulb for eight months
The Secretary was in Columbus to highlight the great work PSI and other companies are doing around the country in the bio-preferred area. He spoke about the recent House-approved farm bill that’s currently in the Senate and why it is so critical to continue the research and investment in this area. The Secretary wants progress in bio economy to continue and grow.
EarthFirst film applications include shrink sleeve, window carton, window envelope, flexible packaging, label and lamination. More information about EarthFirst products can be found at www.plasticsuppliers.com.
