“This is a pivotal time in Alpha Poly's history,” says General Manager Patrick Kerrigan. The family-owned company has expanded its plant to house new, state-of-the-art equipment.

Kerrigan adds, “Our goal is to add value to our products and services and help coordinate our customers' packaging under one roof, with short turnaround times, no matter the size of the job.”

The company is strengthening its ability to do this by purchasing leading edge machinery: a MiraFlex flexo press from Windmoeller & Hoelscher, a Super Simplex SL laminator from Nordmeccanica and a C610A slitter from Deacro.

Both the laminator and slitter were installed June. The Super Simplex SL laminator uses the latest quick cure adhesive technology allowing for slitting in just 3 hours, pouches in 24 hours and fill in 48 hours, therefore resulting in shorter lead times and reduced inventory for our customers. The Deacro slitter provides high-precision roll geometry and continuous web tension from start to finish. Installation of the MiraFlex press begins next month. The press produces top quality print at up to 1300 ft/min. A huge benefit will be the reduction in set-up and changeover times, making small jobs easy to run.

The company added 20,000 square feet for warehousing, using the full existing 33,000 square feet solely for production.

Deloitte recently named Alpha Poly as a regional finalist in the Canada's 50 Best Managed Companies program for 2013. Alpha Poly won a Silver award in the Flexible Packaging category in the 2013 PAC Packaging Competition for its exceptional graphic design, structural design and printing of Downey Potato Farm bags.

The company is currently working towards IFS Pac Secure certification.
