Toray Plastics (America) Inc. (www.toraytpa.com), has received an Overall Excellence in Manufacturing Award in Rhode Island from Providence Business News. The award was presented to Toray’s Mike Brandmeier, president and CEO, by Christian Cowan, Polaris MEP Center director, at the awards dinner held March 30 at the WaterFire Arts Center in Providence. The PBN Manufacturing Awards are designed to identify and celebrate the region’s best manufacturers, large or small, focused or diversified. Toray was recognized for its excellence as a large manufacturer with 150 or more employees; the company employs 600 people at its North Kingstown campus.

“The award program looks at many of the components of a successful manufacturing enterprise, including process, innovation, growth and supply chain excellence, among other things,” says PBN editor Mark Murphy. “But the awards for overall excellence measure a manufacturer’s ability to excel at those tasks and more. They are the cream of the crop in the region and should be held up as examples that others can use to spur their own improvement.”

“We are extremely honored to be recognized by PBN with its Overall Excellence in Manufacturing Award,” says Brandmeier. “The Toray team works hard every day to help Toray’s customers succeed and grow their business while maintaining the company’s position as the industry’s leading innovator in its core markets.  We believe strongly that it is important to be an active part of the Rhode Island community by collaborating with state and local government, supporting essential educational institutions such as URI, and providing ongoing support to a number of nonprofit organizations, all of this while being a good environmental steward.”
