Jindal Films is an industry leader in the development and manufacture of high performance packaging and labeling film solutions, including multilayer white opaque films, metalized films and coated films, for flexible packaging and labeling applications. Jindal Films has affiliated production plants in Europe (Virton, Belgium; Kerkrade, The Netherlands; and Brindisi, Italy), and in the United States (LaGrange, Georgia; and Shawnee, Oklahoma). The company and its affiliates have sales offices to support customer needs in countries around the world, including North America, Europe and Asia. Underscoring its commitment to flexible packaging and labeling industry and customers, Jindal Film announced late 2015 that it will increase metallizing and extrusion capabilities at the LaGrange, Georgia and Brindisi, Italy facilities.
A World of Innovation
Jindal Films is a global leader in innovative film development for flexible packaging and labels. The company has pushed the boundaries of traditional polyolefin film performance with recent breakthrough technologies, such as Platinum Thermal™ and SealTOUGH™. Platinum Thermal is a white, surface-printable polyolefin film that can replace both coated direct thermal substrates and thermal transfer ribbons. This groundbreaking technology recently won the Innovation Award at LabelExpo 2016. SealTOUGH was featured on the 2016 Pack Expo Innovation Stage, and recently won the Innovation Award at All4Pack 2016 in Paris, France.
Within Flexible Packaging, Jindal Films provides pioneering products that lead the market in barrier to moisture, oxygen, and flavor & aroma. These barriers protect package contents and extend the shelf-life of consumer products, enabling customers to expand their product distribution channels and keep products tasting ‘first day fresh’. Jindal Films continues to push the boundaries of seal performance, providing stronger seals and improved seal integrity. This enables packaging in a wider variety of formats, longer distribution channels, and maintains the barrier performance of the package. This superior barrier and sealant technology is available in Bicor™ (clear), Metallyte™ (metal) This superior barrier technology is available in Bicor™ (clear), Metallyte™ (metal), OPPalyte™ (white) and SealTOUGH™ films.
Orientation Enables Downgauging, Enhances Performance
The latest development from the company’s innovation center, SealTOUGH, is a sealant technology platform applied to unique, coextruded packaging films, which are targeted to replace sealant layers in a lamination or single layers in mono-web applications. SealTOUGH is produced on a traditional biaxial orientation production line, resulting in optimal characteristics of the film stretching in the machine direction and transversely to a finished width of up to 10.5 meters. Due to the orientation process, SealTOUGH can achieve minimum thickness as low as 18 microns while still maintaining excellent gauge uniformity. The orientation process improves the clarity, puncture resistance and modulus of the film, which enables significant downgauging opportunities. Packaging designs utilizing SealTOUGH contribute to the Sustainable Packaging Coalition’s objectives for source reduction.
Replace Blown PE Sealant Films
SealTOUGH™ bridges the attributes of BOPP and blown PE film, providing 5,000g/25mm seals, unmatched puncture resistance, enhanced clarity, and improved modulus and gives the down-gauge potential of 30%, 40%, or more compared to traditional sealant films.
Utilizing SealTOUGH as FFS bags, freezer bags, lamination and hygienic bags makes use of property enhancements that allow for the use of thinner film, weight reduction and cost savings. When replacing a 30µm (120 gauge) blown PE film with 18µm (70 gauge) SealTOUGH clear film, you achieve 41% down gauging, 2-fold improvement in clarity, equivalent ultimate seal strength, 2-fold improvement in puncture resistance, 2-fold improvement in impact resistance, 3-fold improvement in tensile strength, 2-fold improvement in modulus, and 50% reduction in elongation.
Technology Platoform for the Future of Flexible Packaging
“This product offers superior performance in critical properties. SealTOUGH achieves the clarity of BOPP with the high seal strength of blown PE. The film’s superior puncture resistance and strength enables significant down gauging opportunities to provide both a performance advantage and cost savings,” said Eric Bender, New Platform Development Manager at Jindal Films. This new platform is being developed into a suite of packaging solutions: clear and white coextruded films, films with added metallization for barrier application and structure simplification, and added coatings for products that require low oxygen barrier. With unrivaled investment in research and development, dedicated resources and unmatched experience, Jindal Films is committed to providing cutting-edge solutions for the future of flexible packaging and labeling.
