MonoSol, a division of Kuraray, partnered with Clean the World to host Pack-a-Thons at several of its facilities Feb. 27.
MonoSol hosted the events at its corporate headquarters in Merrillville, Indiana; its water-soluble film manufacturing plants in Portage, LaPorte and Duneland, Indiana; as well as its facility in the United Kingdom. Employees packed 1,000 hygiene kits that were donated to local charities.
Clean the World is a non-profit enterprise that distributes recycled soaps and hygiene products from hotels to at-risk families. The hygiene kits feature nine personal hygiene items, such as a washcloth, a bar of soap, lotion, shampoo, conditioner, a razor, a toothbrush and toothpaste.
“We believe in making a positive change and enhancing the quality of life for those who live and work in our local communities,” said P. Scott Bening, president and CEO, Kuraray/MonoSol LLC. “This is our third year participating in the Pack-a-Thon for Clean the World. Our continued effort to dedicate our time to serve those in need reflects who we are as a company.”
The kits will be provided to:
- Ross Township Food Pantry in Merrillville, which offers non-perishable foods and sundries to residents in need in Ross Township.
- Portage Township Food Pantry, which assists families in crisis situations living in Portage.
- The Pax Center in LaPorte, which provides a resource center, food pantry, community meal program and community garden to those in need to fight against food insecurity, loneliness and poverty in LaPorte County.
- Maggs Day Centre, a day center in Worcester, England, that provides support, training and practical assistance to help homeless people rebuild their lives.
The Clean the World Pack-a-Thon is one of the many activities MonoSol employees participate in to benefit charitable organizations, including the Food Bank of Northwest Indiana, Ross Township Food Pantry, Portage Township Food Pantry, Toys for Tots, Parents and Friends and State Street Community Church.
