All Printing Resources (APR) will host a narrow web flexible packaging summit Nov. 9 at the company’s Technical Center in Glendale Heights, Illinois.

The one-day event, “APR Narrow Web Flexible Packaging Summit: An Exploration of the Challenges Printers are Facing Today,” will feature industry experts discussing critical issues facing label printers interested in converting flexible packaging applications on their narrow web presses. In addition to members of APR’s Technical Solutions Group, industry experts from Bobst, Enercon, Siegwerk, Xeric Web and market research firm LPC, Inc. will make presentations.

APR recently published results of an extensive market research initiative targeting the U.S. narrow web flexible packaging market, and technical experts will present on key technical areas identified in the research:
  • An overview of the narrow web flexible packaging industry, converters’ challenges and what the future holds
  • Registration and web tension issues with flexible packaging applications on in-line narrow web presses
  • Ink adhesion when printing on flexible packaging films
  • Prepress/plate issues
  • Color control/maintaining job-to-job consistency
  • Controlling web temperature
“Flexible packaging is one of the highest growth areas in the narrow web market,” said Dave Nieman, APR president and CEO. “In commissioning the research, we wanted to survey and interview a wide sampling of narrow web converters actively printing flexible applications to find out what their most critical issues are. At APR, we want to ensure we’re ahead of the curve. We pride ourselves in our technical expertise and because we serve both the label and the flexible packaging markets through the products we represent, we are perfectly positioned to be a valuable resource for label companies entering or active in the flexible packaging space.”
