Saica Flex has designed a 100 percent recyclable cover that adapts to APET trays.

The launch of Monoflex is part of Saica’s continuous commitment to innovation, company officials say. Monoflex improves packaging transparency and brightness, which allows the consumer to have a greater visibility in the purchase of sliced products, and single-dose oils and vinegars while still retaining all the functionality of existing solutions.

This new product contributes to the improvement of the reputation and brand image of the client as it combines with guidelines discussed in the European Union and at the climate change conference COP 21, and contributes to the saving of natural resources due to its total recyclability.

The product consists of a cover based on PET – with or without high barrier, depending on the requirements of the client – and is weldable to APET trays. Tests carried out at tray manufacturer Klöckner Pentaplast’s heat-sealing facilities have proved the tray sealing and the water tightness required for the preservation of the product.

The Saica Monoflex cover is manufactured and distributed with up to a 46 percent reduction in its thickness, which generates large efficiencies in transport and storage since the new coil has more meters of product maintaining the same weight and volume, company officials say. In addition, the productive efficiency in the packaging lines reduces the changes, decreases the losses and increases product yield.

“This allows us to do more with less,” says Ricardo Canavate, Saica Flex’s product and application development manager. “Without a doubt, we have launched a unique product that offers environmental benefits that enhance the positioning and reputation of our customers.”
