Label Technology, Inc., has converted a bar wrapper from compostable film for ReGrained, a sustainable manufacturer of food products.
The single-layer package uses NatureFlex film by Futamura and is manufactured from cellulose obtained from renewable resources. Conventionally, the inks are sandwiched between two layers of film, but in this application the company surface-printed the single layer of film with a water-based ink and aqueous lacquer system.
In addition to the sustainable film selected, the materials and equipment Label Technology utilizes for printing are also inherently sustainable: renewable water-based inks, solvent-free adhesives and a process that mitigates greenhouse gas emissions.
“We continue to trial materials and components that could potentially meet our customer’s desire for sustainable packaging options and are pleased that this single layer solution worked for ReGrained’s application,” says David Bankson, president and CEO of Label Technology. “We are always on the lookout for projects that support both Label Technology’s and our customer’s commitment to sustainability.”
