For the second consecutive year, a Sun Chemical employee has been recognized as the recipient of the Inventor of the Year award from the New Jersey Inventors Hall of Fame.

Ralph Arcurio, a technical manager for the Polymer Science Team at Sun Chemical, was this year’s Inventor of the Year award recipient during a ceremony held at the W Hotel in Hoboken, New Jersey, on Oct. 27.

Arcurio was honored with the award for his development of new reactive hydroxylated and carboxylated polymers for use as adhesion promoters. Necessary in packaging materials and inks, these adhesion promoters offer the highest performance in the marketplace on less expensive substrates with no migration, company officials say.

“Ralph has devoted more than 31 years of service to Sun Chemical, where he has developed and commercialized numerous polymers for surface and laminating packaging inks and coatings,” says Russell Schwartz, chief technology officer at Sun Chemical. “He holds four patents and seven patent applications pending, and has contributed to a significant amount of revenue for the company with his research and innovations. We’re proud of Ralph’s accomplishments here at Sun Chemical and this well-deserved recognition by the New Jersey Inventors Hall of Fame.”
